About
The pre-conference is announcing the coming first edition of the International Africa Satellite Navigation Conference planned in 2025 in Dakar, Senegal.
The High-Level Pre-event will explore how satellite navigation systems can significantly improve disaster preparedness and response, aligning with global and regional frameworks such as the UN Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) initiative, the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the African Union's Agenda 2063. The event will cover recent advancements in GNSS technology, data integration, and analysis, emphasizing their critical role in enhancing the accuracy and timeliness of early warnings for various hazards. Key themes will include technological innovation, capacity building, and community engagement-elements essential for effective disaster risk management and climate risk monitoring.
Hosted alongside the High-Level Pre-event, the Satellite4EarlyWarning Hackathon will highlight the role of GNSS technology in conjunction with other space technologies like Earth Observation and Satellite Communications to enhance Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWAS) in Africa. The Hackathon will offer a platform for African start-ups to demonstrate how their innovations can bridge the technology access gaps between urban and rural cities, particularly in key areas such as early warning systems, climate risk monitoring, and disaster risk reduction. The High-Level Pre-event will feature interactive sessions and expert presentations on key topics such as the integration of satellite data and GNSS technologies, public-private collaboration in early warning system development, inclusive disaster management that addresses the needs of vulnerable groups, and many more. Additionally, it will serve as a venue for capacity building, knowledge sharing, and discussions on partnerships and collaborations among experts, stakeholders, and policymakers.
